Living with a diabetic cat
I'm slacking
I have a laundry list of features I want to work on here.
But, the Kitty is doing great. We've established a ritual and Zsa Zsa actually looks forward to her daily attention and brushing while I give her insulin.
She's been sitting between 2-3 hundred at the high end of her peaks. Over all, not too bad. Her diet still needs a little work since she's still refusing to give up the kibble.
I finally get it
When I first started taking blood sugar readings, it was a debacle. Zsa Zsa complained when I stabbed her ear. She would jump when I'd give her the injection. In short, she was trying to tell me that I really sucked at using needles.
Over the past few weeks we've bonded more and I got to know her and she got comfortable with the morning and evening rituals
I found the sweet spot near the edge of her ears where I can tap her with the lancet while she's being brushed without her even acknowledging that I did anything. I found the right amount of pressure to use when pulling her skin just a little for the injection and she doesn't even react to the insulin injection anymore. She just purrs while Kat brushes her. I'm very pleased.
House keeping and getting used to things
The site is shaping up. I just finished writing the blog layer and a basic user management layer.
On the Zsa Zsa note, I think I'm getting a feel for doing the blood sugar readings as well as the insulin injections.
We're lucky. Zsa Zsa is a real sweet heart. She doesn't mind the ear pricks so much and I've found the sweet spot for getting a good reading on the first try.
The insulin is another matter. She used to jerk violently away as soon as it was injected. I've found that if I pinch just a bit on the fold of skin, she seems to notice less and there are fewer squeeks and protests.
